We respect each individuals decision to get a vasectomy.

No. We respect each individuals decision to have or not have children.

A vasectomy will take between 10 and 15min.

Briefs are recommended to support your little amigos.

You are more than welcome to have a support person.

The incision takes approximately 5 to 10 days to heal depending on the individual.

A vasectomy is the most reliable form of contraception.

In some cases, operations aren’t successful and tests show there are still sperm present in semen. Most clinics quote an failure rate of between 1/100 – 1/300. At the No Scalpel Vasectomy Clinic we have audited our doctor’s results and can proudly boast a rate of 1/500. We offer a free repeat procedure if you are the 1 in 500.

We can therefore say our success rate is 499/500.

A vasectomy will not affect your testosterone levels.

Testosterone has its own highway for travelling down. The vas deferens only job is to transmit sperm.

We have specific advice for men taking testosterone which should be discussed during your pre-procedure consultation. Most men on  testosterone will have a decreased or absent sperm count. This affects timing the testing to check vasectomy success. Being on testosterone alone should not be considered a contraceptive method.

Some health insurance policies will cover the cost of vasectomy. You should call your insurer and ask. Please let us know if you need a quote for pre-approval purposes.

A vasectomy is one of the safest forms of contraception. It is 10x better than the second best form of contraception (tubal ligation) and 300x better than using condoms. It fails in 1/2000 men.

Vasectomy

We use local anaesthetic to make the area completely numb. The anaesthetic is injected just beneath the scrotal skin.

You can also elect to have a pre-medication which further reduces the discomfort of the initial anaesthetic.

No.

Some guys will elect to have a pre-medication. You are still awake after taking a pre-medication. It is useful for guys who are prone to fainting or anxious about undergoing a procedure.

The medication used is lorazepam.

Once completely numb we use a cauterizing surgical device to make a 1-2mm hole in the scrotal skin. Through this hole we can access both tubes.

After

You are not permitted to drive if you have taken the pre-medication. This means you’ll need to organize your chauffeur.

If you’re not taking a pre-medication, yes, it is safe to drive yourself home.

Yes, you deserve a cold one or two.

Yes, you can shower anytime. Just avoid baths/hot tubs/pools or any swimming until the wound heals up.

If your work is sedentary you can return as soon as you like. However, if your job is physically demanding then we recommend taking it easy for at least a week. We can supply a medical certificate to get you on light duties or taking time off.

Sex

As soon as you please. You do not have to wait for the site to heal before ejaculating.

A vasectomy will not affect your sex drive. Your sex drive is linked to testosterone.

Sperm makes up about only 1% of the ejaculate volume so you will not notice any difference following the procedure.

Your body has a function which finds old cells and recycles their ingredients. This is happening constantly and all over your body. So you wont end up with blue balls.

No, you cannot have unprotected sex after your vasectomy. You must continue to use contraception until you have returned a negative sperm check three months after your procedure.

3 months.

3 months after your vasectomy we will remind you to do a test to prove it has worked.

Exercise

Returning to exercise after a vasectomy varies from individual to individual. You should avoid heavy lifting and exercise for one week.

Swimming is exercise and should be avoided for a week and also until the wound is healed.

Reversal

Reversal procedures are expensive and not always successful. You should be sure about undergoing a vasectomy.

Some men have sperm frozen prior to the procedure as an “insurance policy” to changed circumstances. This is done through Fertility Associates.
